According to Skin Cancer Foundation, 10,000 people die annually because of melanoma, which is considered to be the most dangerous form of skin cancer. In a study published by Life Science, a journal, and an online publication from National Institute of Health, they stated that THC inhibits the tumor growth of melanoma.

GreenWay-Iowa-Study-Proves-THC-Treats-MelanomaCannabis-derived THC effects on the growth of melanoma “in vitro and in vivo in wild type and CB1/CB2-receptor deficient mice (Cnr1/2-/-), was examined by researchers for the study. Then through studying the growth of chemically-induced melanomas, fibrosarcoma and papillomas in wild type and Cnr1/2-/- mice, they evaluated the role of the endogenous cannabinoid system.

From the experiments, researchers discovered that THC inhibited tumor growth of transplanted HCmel12 melanomas in a CB receptor-dependant manner in vivo through antagonistic effects on its characteristic pro-inflammatory microenvironment. In comparison, chemically induced tumors in Cnr1/2-/- mice developed in a similar manner to the wild type mice.

The study was conducted in the University of Bonn, Department of Dermatology and Allergy. In conclusion of their study, the researchers confirmed that exogenous cannabinoids possess great value in treatment of melanoma.
